Our History
CHSMRI was established in response to the growing need for specialised health science education in Central Africa. Founded in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the Institute was created with a singular mission: to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and healthcare management, equipping professionals to lead, innovate, and transform health systems.
The Institute grew out of the work of Camassistance, whose teams saw first-hand how shortages of well-trained mid-level health professionals — nurses, midwives, laboratory scientists, community health workers — limited what hospitals and health districts could deliver. CHSMRI was conceived as a practical answer: a school where rigorous science, supervised clinical practice and management discipline are taught together.
From its founding, CHSMRI has maintained close partnerships with regional health ministries, international academic institutions, and private healthcare organisations. This collaborative model ensures that its programs remain grounded in real-world challenges and responsive to the evolving demands of the African health landscape.
Teaching is fully bilingual, in French and English, reflecting both Cameroon's dual heritage and the Institute's ambition to serve students from across the CEMAC region. Every program combines classroom instruction with compulsory placements in partner hospitals, laboratories and community health structures, so that graduates arrive in the workplace already fluent in its realities.
Today, CHSMRI offers 26 accredited programmes across BTS, Licence and Master cycles spanning clinical care, laboratory science, public health and health data — from Midwifery and Nursing Sciences to Field Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Institute is fully accredited by the Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur (MINESUP) and continues to grow its research output, clinical partnerships, and graduate impact.
